Why is nearly all the included music for Christmas? Can I add music for other holidays?

The reason there's so much Christmas music is partly because the majority of people are already familiar with those songs, and partly because those songs tend to be "traditional" and therefore freely distributable without copyright restrictions on the arrangement (although we did license the performance copyright).

Copyright restrictions prevent us from including most popular songs that have been written in the last 75 years, such as "Happy Birthday" (yes, Happy Birthday is copyrighted!). The licensing agencies will not license these songs for inclusion with programs distributed as shareware, like Holiday Lights.

However, Holiday Lights does allow you to download and easily use any MIDI song from Web sites such as Yahoo's list of Christmas MIDI sites. These sites have their own legal arrangements, and usually allow you to download MIDI files free as long as they're for personal use.

See the topics below to learn how to add more music to Holiday Lights.
