Are the Shareware Programs Registered Copies or Trial Versions?

They're both! When you first download any program, it works in "trial" mode — you can use it at no charge, but it reminds you to pay every so often, and some features may be "locked." If you choose to purchase the program, we send you a serial number that converts the trial version into a fully registered copy, turning off the reminder messages and unlocking all the features.

If you have already bought a program, but you're downloading it to reinstall it (because, for example, you switched to a new computer or you're upgrading to a newer version), simply reenter your serial number if necessary after downloading.

In What Format Are These Files? Should I Worry About Viruses?

Windows programs are compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows NT 4. (We have no current plans to upgrade these programs for compatibility with Windows Vista, unfortunately.) They are in the form of an executable setup program that should not need any additional conversion after downloading — simply save the program on your disk and run it. Windows files have been checked for viruses using Norton AntiVirus.

Macintosh programs are compatible with all versions of System 7, Mac OS 8, and Mac OS 9. (They do not work with Mac OS X, except in the "Classic" compatibility mode.) They are compressed and encoded, but they should automatically decode and decompress after downloading. If for some reason that doesn't happen, you can simply save the file on your disk and drag it onto Aladdin Systems' free Stuffit Expander to convert it. Mac files have been checked for viruses using Norton AntiVirus.
